The Psychology behind Collaborative Work

Hi World,

I have some time sorted out from my Masters of Business Administration and I want to focus today on your workspace and culture. Is your workspace culture Transformational or Transactional? And which one of these approaches does your personality fit into?

High power cultures usually follow a Transactional pattern which means structured processes and policies with little room for innovation. Where on the other hand, Transformational approach is more collaborative to motivate innovation. Now which one of these best matches the personality and culture of your workspace? The answer will depend on where you are located in the world and what cultural background you come from.

Next Generation…

On my earlier days I worked for several Financial Institutions. Work spaces as such are always filled with cubicles. The walls are painted dark ‘boring’ grey and that is because they want their employees to focus. You would find this layout till date in many Financial and Government offices. A) Because their approach is Transactional and, B) They don’t have the budget to revamp their workplace.

However, many consulting firms today have adopted a new interior for their workplace. These companies have found that to boost an employee’s creativity, innovation and productivity they have to add to that employees work space. Studies conducted on relationship building suggest that a space has a lot to do with how a relationship is formed versus the actual compatibility. Neighbours are considered better friends to some just because how close they live and their interaction every day. The concept is used when forming an open collaborative space.

Collaborative space

Interior of many offices today are like common café areas. But is that enough? Can a space be just copied from a Pinterest picture and be called a collaborative space? The answer is no! As a business you have to integrate workforce, core values, work processes and the cooperate culture. The business has to evaluate the employees together vs. alone time. Hence, there should be spaces for collaborative work, meetings, discussions and spaces where the employee can work alone. This is when audibility comes into play. There has to be places which are sound proof for employees to concentrate. Also, every corner of the space should depict and reflect the corporate culture, which psychologically keeps the employee motivated.

Many collaborative spaces have indoor pool tables, ps4, and other games for all employees to connect. This increases collaborative thinking and builds a bond between co-workers. Amusement builds the motivation of the productivity and so does food. Free food has been incorporated in many collaborative space as well. If you keep your employees happy, then they will put in more creative and innovative work towards the brand you represent.

So how Collaborative are you?

Thanks you,

DLA

Power Relationship – Tips of Networking

Hi World,

As you may know I am completing my Masters of Business Administration which has kept me quite busy in the past few days. I love to write my blog posts and assisting all of you with Business tips, Leadership skills, Communication techniques, Marketing methods, Relationship building, Understanding human behavior and just on miscellaneous topics that I find relevant.  However, my time management has been very poor lately. I have been managing both work, studies and home. Being said all that, I found some time to speak about networking! Due to the nature of my work I have been having to do a lot of networking lately and let me tell you whether you are a successful business owner or just starting your first job, networking is crucial!

Don’t be Shy!

Listen, I understand! I was that shy person! I had a negative perspective towards networking from the get-go. Going up to a stranger was quite intimidating for me. I felt like I was asking for a favor or being manipulative. Getting that favor would also mean that someone else helped me in achieving something hence I am not worth it. But remember that saying, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know—well its true! Soon after, I had to change that perspective because networking lands you opportunities.

Change your Perspective

It’s not that you are being an opportunist or you are strategizing your way up, but you are connecting with people who have different experiences in the field and from whom you can learn from. These people have already been there and done that and that’s an advantage because you can learn from their mistakes and apply the path they used.

Yes, it’s quite intimidating at first! However, if you read my earlier blogs then you know I always preach about practice and patience! Practice makes perfect. If you are shy then you have to start by practicing. Work on your networking techniques before applying it on strangers. But where do you start from? At home and friends!

Go out meet new people through your friends. Connect with old family members to whom you lost touch and don’t really speak with. Always know this number one rule, don’t jump the gun and ask for a favor. You have to be mindful of the conversation. You have to build a rapport. Networking is about relationship building. Strike up a conversation about random things and keep practicing it with different people. Let them know what you have been up to. Listen to their stories, become a good listener. If you are shy that’s your number one magic is the power of listening.

Make it personable

Remember you are trying to build a relationship therefore you have to make it personable. You have to make them feel comfortable. One way to make a person feel comfortable is by addressing the person by their name. Another simple way is by smiling. You become more friendly and approachable if you have your happy face on.

Give!

While networking you have to always think ‘people’ and not the position. You have to find out a way to help them. You have to show your generosity so that person remembers you as kind. Always think about how you can help that person.

Be prepared

Yes, it’s a preparation game. Some people are great at being spontaneous and networking but most us are not. Therefore you need to have your business card read. Also, important, have a 3 sentence elevator pitch ready! You have to also be ready for rejection, not everyone is open to networking and are friendly. After you have practiced a bit, you would want to eliminate and find your critical few. Critical few are the 20 or less contact that you would like to associate with to learn more. This is an elimination process you have to create by researching on who knows who (Linkedin). You have to create your visibility, show them you are credible by helping them.

Follow up

As I said, Networking is a relationship building process. You have to always follow up and take them out for coffee. You have to determine where you are in the relationship to ask to be introduced with that connection they are associated with, position or recommendation letter.

Happy Networking,

DLA

Wedding Anxiety

Hello World,

I don’t have the wedding Jitters just yet but I hear that’s one common trend of anxiety a couple face during their wedding. Ironic how a perfect wedding is not guaranteed but wedding anxiety is! It’s normal to get anxious since it’s a milestone in your life. However, the wedding anxieties takes small issue and enlarges the problems into madness. The couple start to question the relationship, they go into panic mode with organization of the planning and they also start magnifying every little thing. The worst is when the couple starts believing they are with the wrong partner. All of a sudden, you ask yourself was saying, “Yes” a mistake? But what if I told you all this is normal?!

It’s Normal…

Don’t turn into bridezilla! Reality check, they ALL call you that behind your back when you are a new bride. It’s normal to feel anxious! Accept it! You need to accept that your one day will be great no matter what. You will still end up with your partner you have been dating for a good while and the best of it all after the big day you wake up beside them for the rest of your life. Now I know, what you are thinking! That is exactly the problem! What if you don’t want to wake up beside them the rest of your life? There is a sudden commitment issue. The proposal happened too soon and you didn’t get time to think. After all these years but right before the wedding you start noticing their minor details of leaving their socks in the living room, leaving a bunch of dishes in the sink, and snoring at night! Can you take that for the rest of your life? Are they the one? That’s called wedding jitters aka Cold Feet! You were just fine weeks before they engagement but now you want to run out that door.

Your partner didn’t change, it’s just you over thinking. When all this goes through your mind, please do yourself a favor and take a breather! Stop thinking about the wedding for a bit and take your partner out on a nice date. Speak about anything but the wedding. Go out with your girlfriends and have a fun girl’s night out. Main key point is, leave it the thoughts and have fun!

Run…

Literally run! You have to fit into that wedding gown don’t you? Run, exercise and let the stress go out the door. I know you won’t have time because of all the planning and organizing but you have to make time to do a bit of pre-wedding workout. This will help you distract and relax your mind. Take a breather and go for long walks and do yoga! Don’t worry that dress would look great on you.

Use the Bridesmaids…

I know you can be the best bridezilla in the world by planning your perfect dream wedding, but another reality check, sorry, you can’t do it all alone! When someone offers a kind gesture, “Do you need me to do something?” That’s when you say, “Yes” for the second time! Wedding planning is doing a lot of things at once and involves a lot of coordination. No matter what you say, you can’t multitask with that wedding anxiety of yours. That’s the reason you leave it to people that really care about you. Trust, remember that word? They will not mess up your big day. I know you are worried something will get left behind if you are not looking over it but hey, this is when you are getting a chance to show your true Project management skills! Delegate your work!

Don’t DIY

I know you millennials are eager to open up your Youtube and Pinterest and start your DIY cards and gifts, guest lists, stages, cupcakes, flowers, decorations and basically the whole wedding, but don’t do it! I know your wedding needs to look DIY trendy but you are creating more work for yourself and adding to your stress level at this time. There is a reason there is ETSY and other shops on Shopify that can easily give your wedding that DIY touch. Can you imagine sitting at 2:00 in the morning still playing with glitter and hand writing all of your 200 invitations? Nope, do not do it!

Why the Cold Feet…

You doubt that they will turn out to be a bad partner or you yourself will not be a good one. You may had divorces in your family, traumatic childhood, violence etc. that adds to your decision of quitting last minute. You feel history will repeat and those things may reoccur in your life either through you or through your partner. You will end up in the same position as your fears. Nope, negative! You will not because you will avoid that pattern. You know the issue and you will work against to protect a good successful relationship. Stop being negative and let the whole thing pan out and take its course.

It won’t be perfect…

I am sorry, I saved the bad news for the last. It won’t be perfect but you will love it. Somethings will go out of coordination, some people will be late, maybe the weather won’t cooperate or someone will make an embarrassing toast. But that’s not what the wedding is about! It’s not a show for everyone else, you don’t have to please everyone and make it a perfect wedding but it’s a celebration for yourself. I feel often people confuse what a wedding really means. A wedding is a celebration of two people starting a new beginning together. All the people attending are celebrating your happiness. It’s your day and you have full right to mess up and have fun! You are allowed! So sure, the mike didn’t work when the speeches were going on but that’s okayyyy!

Don’t forget my hand written invitation card for your wedding!

Increase your Conversion Rate for your Website

Hello World,

If you own a business then you exactly know what I mean when I say that you need to improve your conversion rate for greater Return on Investments (ROI). A conversion rate is the percentage of total visitors to visitors who perform desired actions. Hence, increase in conversion rate equals greater return on investments. Conversion rates are the key driving points of Marketing Campaigns. Yes, you want more subscribers, followers, viewers, and audience but you also what these people to do something, take an action and buy your product/services!

All about the looks…

In this case it is all about the looks! Seriously, if your website is not appealing you will lose sales. What is appealing to your audience? You need to keep on upgrading and experimenting with the fonts, color, and stylistic changes on your webpage to see what works. You have to keep on testing with new design possibilities to polish the website. Use high quality images, even Tinder and Bumble does these days! High quality adds to your website quality and the customer associate with product/service quality. Use headshots of happy people, humanize the experience on your website. Even better add a video! Video is considered to be the step before touching and feeling. Keep everything tunnel vision for the person reading your front and landing page. Simplicity is key, if there are too many options to choose from then the customer will get confused. We don’t want that!

Clarity on CTA…

Keep it simple and clear. Keep the options minimal and clearly list the benefits. It’s all about motivation. What will motivate your customers to buy your product/services in simple words? Then comes CTA! What do you want your audience to do? Don’t confuse them! Don’t let them think! Just tell them! Focus on your Call To Action. These buttons can really make or break your next sale. CTA can increase 27% of conversion rate. The way to do this is by adding Action words. There is a difference between, “Try it now” vs. “Get Started” Do you see it? Which one of those motivates you more? Why should I, the customer, click on your landing page hyperlink button? What is the motivation? Be clear on your CTA and tell your customers they can “Buy” or “Get Started”.

Segmentation and Behavior of Customers…

No, not all your customers think the same. You have to make your website appeal to multiple personalities. A website has 4 types of visitors, competitive, spontaneous, methodical, humanistic. A paid site visitor will behave a different way than an organic visitor. A competitive visitors will check your prices. A spontaneous visitor will like to learn about your website. A methodical visitor will ask how does this product add value, or change something in their life. A humanistic visitor will look for a way to connect. Therefore, add a guarantee and ratings (the yellow 5 stars)! Also, use testimonials and reviews. Show them how many visitors, subscribers and followers love your product. Recommend related products and keep the visitors engaged. Also, if you can let the customers customize their own products! Adidas lets you customize shoes, that’s why you have Ultra Boost now! Make sure it’s easy to contact you. Use a Chat tool to tell them you are there with them on the website.

Conversion Tracking!

Google Analytics! Use a conversion tracker! Do it NOW! How do you know if you are doing great or worse if you don’t track your performance? Let me tell you, 97 % of marketing campaigns fail without tracking. It’s hard to track higher funnel marketing and social media, you don’t know how much sales you are getting from that platform. That means tracking everything, starting from phone calls, form submissions, sales, sign-ups, online chats, in-store visits.

Fear of Loss…

It’s not always easy with motivation that’s the reason you have to create fear of loss. How can you create a fear of loss if they don’t click on that button that will take them to the payment screen today? Let them know stock won’t last, “until stocks last”, or “for a limited time”

Make things easy!

We have 8 second attention span these days, lower than a gold fish! How can you keep me focused on the page and take my transaction as smoothly as possible? Trust me, no one wants to go through the process of registration to buy anymore. Let them buy as a guest! Registration should be optional but not required. If you have any forms that needs to be filed out, have a lot of optional fields. Don’t forget to offer various payment methods. And please, don’t charge for shipping, that’s your number one conversion killer. They will find the same item on Amazon and pay no shipping after a certain cost!

Thanks for reading,

Social Media Vs. Life

Hello World,

You know what felt good today? Forgetting my phone at my desk and taking an hour long walk. I felt a different kind of free. No notifications! No emails! No constantly checking my feeds for fear of missing out! I had time to just be me, just to live the time without distractions. I experienced the walk, felt the nice cool breeze without the idea of—it didn’t happen if I don’t Snap it! It made me realize detaching myself from Social media is actually creates a ZEN moment. It’s almost like meditation these days. So I ask, how addicted are you to your Social Media? Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, etc.

Short Memory Span!

Don’t deny it, due to your Social media you have a really short memory span now! I would rather see things in a Tweet format than read a full paragraph as a description or even better, I would rather see a picture! We live in an 8 second memory span life now! That is both good and bad. You store short bits of a lot of information that you don’t really know in-depth details about. This is helpful because you can multitask much better but bad since you are easily distracted. You are killing your ability to focus. You have no tolerance for focus, you need to see things more simple and now! That’s our next generation, Gen Z!

No you are not missing out!

Social media misrepresents our idea of reality. You only see people having great moments on their Instagram, Snapchat or Facebook. Posting pictures of their brand new shopping and living a very heavily filtered lavish life. But what about the other side? I mean you can’t be always be happy?! No one posts about their unhappy sad moments. What about their bad day at work? The constant feed of other people’s lives make us compare our truth with only what we see them post. We end up comparing ourselves with their happy heavily filtered moments. That’s when jealousy and self-pity kicks in! Oh and Social Media doesn’t stop there, they will make sure to notify with each new feed.

What are you missing out on? There are approximately 7.5 Billion people living on this Earth, you are missing out on many more cool things than your Snapchat can hold! You can’t follow and snoop on everyone’s lives. Just let go of that mentality because you have your own! Also, stop being a show off! The idea that you have to take a picture or it didn’t happen, I mean does that even make sense? Why didn’t it happen? You were there to experience it! Trust me, if you met up with your friends and described that very moment to them then that would create more real quality connection than a filtered Instagram picture would!

Turn off the Notifications!

Social media is great! It keeps you up to date and trendy. That’s the only way of connecting these days and I don’t want you to be a barbarian without any social media. But you don’t have to be connected 24/7 to it and must know where to draw the line. It’s not your life, let’s learn to admit that! When you see you are procrasting and are double tapping on people’s Instagram pictures for an hour, that’s a problem!

Use that “Do not disturb” feature on your phone. Find a hobby. Deactivate some of your Social Media, honestly even what’s app has a Story feed now?! Why?! Prioritize your day and give yourself a binge Social media time of scrolling through feeds but honestly when at work or doing something work related, turn off all your other useless social updates except maybe your emails!

Happy sharing!

Thanks,

DLA

Rejection doesn’t have to be Negative

Hello World,

Rejection sucks! Be it breakup, a position you didn’t get or your body rejecting you with a fatal illness! The point is they all feel terrible. We need a rejection therapy and I am here to support you with the cold sore feelings of rejection. Have you ever sat down and thought why rejection always incite the negative? When rejected you are always taking personal unkind shots at yourself –unhealthy! In most cases the feelings are anger, anxiety, depression, fear, frustration, humiliation, worthlessness, and all the other negative emotions you can think of. Now our job is to regulate these emotions and not let it take over! Changing the way you look at the word “rejection” plays a huge part!

Don’t take it personal

Yeah man, don’t take it personal! Rejection always has two sides, the rejecter and the rejected. The rejecter can have many reasons to why they are not considering you and no, it’s not because you are useless! Take a fatal illness like cancer for instance, I am sure you wouldn’t choose your body to store and create cancer cells. A job interviewer may choose to move on by marginal difference of skillset they find on another candidates resume. A girl/boy may choose not to be with you because they want different things in life than you. A child may be given to an Adoption service right after birth and it may be since the parents are struggling financially. None of these examples should make the rejected feel less.

Give it your best and let go!

If you think about all the examples, the person rejecting always has the upper hand of making the choice. They can choose if they see you fit or not with their circumstance in mind. You, on the other hand, is the one going to them for the decision. Let me clarify that, I said, “decision” not the, “final verdict”. Sure, it’s great to be selected for what you wished for but that’s not the reality of life and doesn’t always pan out that way. I think that’s a really important key point, life doesn’t always pan out the way we want it. Since we know this what we need to do is give it our best and let go and then repeat! The decision really doesn’t matter! Remember, don’t take it personal! The decision is your chance to improve, it’s actually an opportunity. Everything in life is a learning process. After the decision, you always get to ask why and that’s the best part for self-growth and improvement!

Ask why and get better!

Get Feedback! Make sure you understand why there was a breakup in the relationship and take away what you can do differently next time. Write a follow up interview email and ask for feedback about what was missing. Feedback is what will help you face your next opportunity with a little more confidence.

Get Rejected and be excited for it!

The worst part of facing a rejection is fear of rejection. People actually stop trying after being rejected the first few times! What? No! You are doing it all wrong! You have to train yourself to be immune to rejection. Trust me, all the Founders and CEO’s of all the Fortune 500 companies can attest to me saying that they didn’t get where they are with their first try! You have to keep on trying to land something perfect. Rejection always works itself out. When you are rejected, you are so deep into self-blame that you don’t take into count that it was actually good that you did get rejected. Maybe if you stayed in the relationship it would have become unbearably toxic, or if you accepted that role, the hectic work environment wouldn’t suit you.

Don’t stress about it! Keep at it!

Sincerely,

DLA

Relearn Self – Discipline

Hello World,

You want achieve a goal or many goals?! Then you would have to learn self-discipline. Despite many beliefs self-discipline can be learnt with training. Self-Discipline requires practice, patience and control of temptations. It’s a process of building specific habits. Once you mastered self-control you will get more done in less time with less effort. Sounds good?

Define

Take self-discipline as a project. Before you start any project you have to define the purpose of the project. You have to ask yourself what is the end goal and why do you want to achieve this goal.

The main questions to answer thoroughly are as follows,

  • What do I want?
  • Why do I want this?
  • Why specifically do I need to follow through and get this done?
  • Why specifically do I want to achieve this goal?
  • Why specifically do I want to develop this habit?
  • Why is this of primary importance for me right now?
  • Why do I really want this in my life?
  • What are the potential rewards I will gain from doing this?
  • What personal standards will I uphold?
  • What behaviors and choices will I accept?
  • What behaviors and choices will I not accept?
  • How will I correct things when I get off track?

Tasks vs. Temptations

Our prime obstacle with reaching self-discipline are random distractions. We get distracted very easily! Especially when we feel the goal is too difficult. Face it, we are lazy! We don’t like stepping out of our comfort zone. Hence, we avoid the difficult route and choose the easy way out and allow ourselves to get distracted. But how is getting sidetracked helping you become a better version of yourself? How does the temptation contribute in achieving the end goal? It’s a stoppage, it’s not assisting in improving your purpose but making you stagnate.

To reach the end goal you need to break the objective down to smaller actions. After you defined what you wish to achieve, separate the entire goal into small tasks. Even your distractions! Yes, even your distractions. You can’t eliminate entertainment completely. No one is telling you to be a zombie! You need to let your mind and body rest as well. You need to set a side time for distractions, entertainment, and temptations which will work as your reward. For example, there needs to always be a cheat day after a weeklong fitness training!

Motivation

Many people lose motivation because they don’t know where to begin with a project. Breaking the goal down into smaller tasks will definitely make that clear. Another way to stay motivated is by rewarding yourself or turning your temptations into rewards. It’s as simple as the concept of CUE-ACTION-REWARD.

For example, let’s say you are setting a goal to lose weight of 160 pound and the trainer has asked you to complete a High intensity Interval Training on the treadmill every day for one hour for X number of days. Now, since cardio is not your best friend, your resting heart rate is on the higher end which makes you lose your breath while running on the treadmill. How would you motivate yourself? – Cue – What do you love eating? Steak/Chocolate. Action – Cardio every single day for one hour. Track your performance. Reward—live a little, celebrate your hard work. Have that steak and chocolate with a glass of wine! You need to change in some aspect to have the end target in your life, you have to ask do you deserve to have the goal in your life?

Track your performance

This is a big motivator for me! Competition always gets me going. When you are competing, it feels like a challenge you want to win. When you track your performance you can compete against your best self. You can also out work and outperform others you see as role models. Tracking your performance is important because self-discipline is not about constantly repeating something every day but to correct and adapt to the behavior.

Keep reading and sharing!

Thanks,

DLA

Long Distance Relationship makes an Excellent Communicator

Hello World,

First of all I don’t know how you all do it because a Long Distance Relationship (LDR – almost sounds like bad cholesterol LDL) is definitely not for me and I don’t recommend it to anyone else. But the people who have had success they know exactly what it means when I say you are great communicators! A long distance relationship will bring many hurdles and obstacles along the way. You will be missing key experiences and to compensate these obstacles you have to learn to be an excellent communicator.

Agreement

I Know I key in fear of uncertainty a lot but not knowing what the future of the relationship is a major one in LDR. It’s hard getting to know a person in your own city, imagine someone living across the sea. So how do we solve this? No don’t write up a contract and make them PDF sign the document. Have a conversation about it. Be open! Let them know your expectations and find out where they want their life to be in the future. You should know if you want the same end goal.

Frames of Relationship A-H-M

  • Frame A Relationship – This means you are clingy! If your partner leaves you even through involuntary separation (health problems) then you would break. In a Frame A relationship, the partners define their identity through the relationship.
  • Frame H Relationship – This means you are in an open relationship! In this relationship the partners have separate bank accounts, locked rooms, hidden passwords and secrets. They can stand independently on their grounds and they don’t really need the other partner.
  • Frame M Relationship – The ideal balanced frame. You are both independent but you rather work together to create the balance.

Unfortunately, in most Long distance relationships you are in a Frame A or Frame H relationship. Let’s see how we can stay away from this trap!

Transparency / Infidelity

Good news, research show, the idea of people cheating more when in a long distance relationship is completely false. However, it doesn’t take away the fact of a Frame H relationship, which means more secrets can be kept from the partner. Transparency and clarity is very important in a long distance relationship. Try to keep the communication everyday (Important). Give them the freedom to do whatever they want, yes even cheat! What?! I know, because there is no way you can stop that. But the partner should have the transparency to tell you if a situation as such arises. Don’t make it difficult for them to speak to you, or shy away from this conversation.

Jealousy

Did you read what I wrote? Just because they are far and you can’t track their every step, that doesn’t mean they are sleeping with someone else! I know the emotion is hard to control. You have a partner far away and you don’t know what they are doing tonight! I mean they said they were going to bed at 10:00 pm on a Friday night but are they really? Can you even trust them? I mean what if they are talking to someone right now while they are texting you or even worse, what if they are meeting someone else far more attractive, who they exchanged a smile with in the bar last night?!! What if they found someone else?!

Okay stop it! Remember if they have those options then you do as well. No falling in the Frame A category ladies and gents! Your world does not revolve around them and you are not dependant on them. You don’t have to track them like a spy, that’s not a relationship! They have their freedom and you do as well. The key thing to remember is to have transparent conversations and having your own life and sharing it transparently with them. This will build up trust. Talk to them every day and ask them about their day, tell them about your day. Also, communicate the expectations of the relationship. If you don’t like certain things then tell them.

Reaction / Miscommunication / Control

Spending majority of their time apart unavoidably causes long distance partners to lead lives that are noticeably separate and not necessarily similar in quality to one another. Respond, don’t react! Miscommunication is a huge LDR issue. A long email, text can be easily misinterpreted as you can’t view the other side’s facial expression. When you come across a situation as such that offends or upsets you then ask them before reacting to the situation. Trust me, most times then didn’t mean what you read! To avoid this completely, have video chats. Set up Skype dates every day or every two days. It will give you the feel for how they speak and what their jokes are like.

Don’t be Boring! Be Exciting!

Why would they even need to cheat if your conversations are mysterious and exciting? The big obstacle is no Sex! No physical interactions, intimacy, not being able to see facial expression or meet whenever for that warm hug! And social media doesn’t help you on this. You are on their Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Whatsapp, Skype etc constantly updating your life. After an entire day of update what else do you have to share for a good conversation? Save some mystery, let them find out and get to know you. Ask more questions! Teach them something! Be creative! Make sure you are comfortable with your sexuality. Spice it up! Keep it exciting and compliment them.

Depression / Have your own Identity…

Have fun! If you have your own life and identity and working on your own goals then you will always have something to talk about. This will keep both parties motivated and excited about one another. Many suffer psychological problems such as anxiety, stress, and depression when in a LDR. The best way to avoid the trap is by networking and going out with friends to maintain your own social life. Keep yourself busy and always working.

Long distance relationship has many down falls and a never ending list of issues. However, the best tool in this relationship is the technique of communication. Partners in LDR can engage more profoundly than other relationships. They can connect in thoughtful intellectual conversations and build a deeper meaningful connection.

Sincerely,

DLA

Lower Your BAD Cholesterol

Hello World,

Okay, yes I have been bad at keeping this blog up to date but here I am again! So what should I write about today? How about I share a little update! I am sure many of you would relate–I am absolutely terrified, petrified and any other …fied of doctors! Don’t get me wrong my doctor is amazing! He has a funny and a personality that would put a smile on anyone’s face. It’s not my doctor, it’s the fear of uncertainty. The vagueness of what the health test results would be. When I am at the doctors I feel they are waiting to announce bad news. The worst part is when your doubts are right!

Cholesterol

Yes, I am in my late 20’s and I already have cholesterol. The feeling sucks. And trust me you saying, “Wow you are too young to have cholesterol!” with a *shocked face* doesn’t help! All of a sudden my body became a burden. Now I have to take added care of it with all the other things on the list. Added responsibility! I didn’t ask for it but it’s on my plate now.

My eating patterns has always been healthy, but my stress level has been quite high lately and that’s exactly what spiked my cholesterol level. Cholesterol found in all cells of the body. The body requires cholesterol to create hormones, vitamin D, and substances that assist in digesting foods. Along with the body, some food contain cholesterol as well. Cholesterol travels through your bloodstream in small sets called lipoproteins. There are two types of lipoproteins, Low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and high-density lipoproteins (HDL). Here is what you remember, LDL – Bad cholesterol, too much of it blocks your arteries. HDL – good cholesterol, it carries the cholesterol your body produces back to your liver.

Let’s control BAD Cholesterol

Change your eating habits! No fried food ladies and gents. No more fries! You’re eating habit will play a huge part in lowering your LDL level.

Foods to eat:

  • Omega-3-rich fish: salmon, sardines, herring, mackerel, and trout
  • Naturally rich in soluble fiber food: oats, oat bran, barley, peas, yams, sweet potatoes and other potatoes, as well as legumes or beans, such as pinto beans, black beans, garbanzo beans, peas
  • Vegetables rich in soluble fiber: carrots, Brussels sprouts, beets, okra, and eggplant. Good fruit sources are berries, passion fruit, oranges, pears, apricots, nectarines, and apples.
  • Sterols are naturally occurring substances found in plants: Sterol supplements (CholestOff)
  • Psyllium: Metamucil

Try and STOP eating:

  • Red meat (beef, pork, lamb, veal, goat)
  • Butter.
  • Hard margarines
  • Lard, dripping and goose fat
  • Fatty meat and meat products such as sausages
  • Full fat cheese, milk, cream and yogurt
  • Coconut and palm oils and coconut cream
  • Dairy products

Cardio!

Most people are advised to shed fat by losing weight but I am already very petite. But being petite doesn’t mean anything, I still have bad fat inside in my body. I am what you call a, skinny fat. My resting heart rate is terrible! Which means it’s time to cardio. Go sweat a little a bit. Run outside, and find a treadmill. I recommend everyone to search HIIT (High Intensity Interval training) workout, if you lose breath while running just like me, then this workout will definitely help you.

I will definitely keep you posted on my progress…

Sincerely,

DLA

What is your Niche?

Hello World,

What is it that set’s you apart from the very next person standing next to you right now? Your personality of course! But what about your soft and hard skills? Many people have an outlook that they should stop reading, writing and learning after their schooling is complete. But is it really that way? You realize soon enough that learning is a life long journey. Even if you think schooling is where it ended, it didn’t!

I mean in today’s day and age how can you avoid knowledge? You carry it with you everywhere you go, it’s called the internet! You keep learning and gaining new knowledge on the daily. You learn new practical skills at work. You are able to connect, engage, present and sell to your clients. You learn to manage and implement new tools and methodologies to update your career. You move out and mom is not there to cook for you anymore! So you Google a bunch of recipes and learn how to survive on your own. You learn how to handle a child for the first time after becoming a parent. At a certain point your health becomes extremely important, you gain more knowledge about how your body functions and how to keep it functioning. With each skill learnt you are constantly growing as an individual. But everyone goes through that, right? I mean, you get put in a situation where you have to learn a skill to survive that situation. Is that really pushing your creative boundaries and finding your Niche? Something that set’s you apart from the person standing next to you.

Talk to people…

I am a really big advocate of constant learning and self-growth. I feel a useful approach to constant growth is engaging. Talking to others and learning from their interesting adventures, success stories, and failures not only motivates you but assists in building a roadmap for your own personal and professional goals. My way of engaging and connecting is by blogging, reading a lot, a lot and a lot of biographies and attending networking events. I meet a lot of creative and likeminded individuals from whom I can constantly learn and broaden my interests.

Go places you don’t like going…

Another way of self-growth is to make yourself vulnerable. Put yourself in places you are less confident in. It’s all about practice and know that it doesn’t matter what people thinks. Go to a karaoke night and sing in front of people. Waste of time? But what if you really end up enjoying it? What if it helps you break a fear of being in front of a crowd? What if you are actually a good singer and someone discovers you like Justin Beiber discovered by Usher, JK! But hey, anything can happen! Take your chances, when you do, it helps you self-assess your interest. You end up discovering a new side of you.

Day Dream…

Be Bored! Let your creative juices flow. Some people are most creative when they are taking a really nice hot shower. Forget stress, forget work, forget what you have to do and take a walk a walk at the park. Enjoy the beautiful breeze. You know our weather is rarely like this so why not? When your brain is congested with multiple thoughts and the never ending to-do list, it’s hard to bring your mind to one thing and focus. To regain focus you need to subside the other thoughts. Open up your mind by giving yourself “you” time.

Add to your skills…

Keep upgrading yourself! Most courses are either free or really cheap on the internet nowadays. You don’t have to manage time to learn a skill these days. Many education institutions are providing distance learning nowadays in most subjects, even Harvard and Stanford. Use Coursera or Udemy, they have never ending sources of hard and soft skills you would need to upgrade your resume or complete your personal goals.

Now let’s get engaging, being bored, and picking up a book!

Thanks,

DLA
