Hello World,

Make sure you leave a comment! Would love to hear your insights.

I must say, I am enjoying this new wordpress editor! The navigtion is easier and it looks much cleaner. Love it! Seems like I am writing in a Word Document.

Okay now, how many of you have you track your to-do’s on a sticky note? How many of you have sticky notes all over your desks your walls and story boards?

STOP! You need to start using Trello!

Still figuring out many new features as I commence on writing this post! Trello replaces all your sticky notes. It requres your email address to sign up and you can use it for absolutely free! No gimmick. I know everything comes with a gimmick these days!

Trello looks like your regular sticky notes but on a board. You can categorize and group you task and mark them complete as you work your way through! It is an amazing tool keep track of all the tasks you have in the day…also motivates you to clear up your desk space.

Organizing your physical space will help you clean up your mind! Trust me it works. A clean space can will help with creative thinking!

Next! OneNote…I know what you are thinking, you can’t be a good project manager or an analyst if you are not a good notetaker. For note taking you need OneNote. I love OneNote because it has various capabilities and features that I can use to almost create a planner. This application also integrates with various platfroms used on the daily, for example, your Microsoft Outlook.

Exactly like Trello, Microsoft Planner serves the same purpose. Here you can assign tasks and track the progress. You are also able to share your tasks with your team members and track the progress. It’s great for team management.

Steamer – Amazon Deals

Hey Everyone,

Hand held travelers steamer:

Thought I do another product read on the best Amazon Deals that I am finding. Also, test and work on my organic tractions.

When I was younger, I use to work retail. Fashion retailers keep their clothes looking crisp is NOT by ironing but with steamers.

I bought the exact one. I bought one called Toby from Walmart. Big and bulky! Hard to put together and hard to move around. I loved the idea of having amazing looking clothes all the time, however, I hated the work of putting together the device in order to get the actual result.

Oh and let’s not forget, I spent 100 dollars for Toby the steamer!

So here we are today, older and wiser. This time I am all about investing in experiences and items that will make life easier while being thrifty. I did my Amazon research to find the Steamer, I needed this time and found…

The handy traveler steamer is perfect for the couple of items you need to wear right away. Easy to set up and perfect for the time you are in a hurry.

Let me know your Amazon finds! Share your ideas with me.

Thank you,

Stay at home Motivation

Hello World,

The stay at home transition has been tough for all even if you were a home body. A lot of you lost your jobs or are on temporary lay offs. This has caused unnecessary anxiety and pain.

It’s harder said then done, but change your mindset. Think about the opportunities you have that you did not in your daily busy “normal” life. For example, a lot of people are finally getting to spend a lot of time with their families. Some of you finally have the time to learn a new skill and get certified.

The world is your oyester. Be mindful of your pressense. Don’t let go or give up! Follow all the health tips, stay safe and take this time to develop your self further.

There will be all sorts of hiccups in life that you have to deal with yourself. Better way to look at this current hiccup is, everyone in the world is one unit and dealing with it.

My goals are self improvement related, both physical and mental. I am trying to learn new things daily, obtain new skills and become physically fit. I am holding myself accountable and completing my self improvement tasks daily. I want to come out of this as a stronger person. You can do it too!

I started waking up daily at 6:30 – 7 am. This has helped to gather my thoughts, have a bit of time before I get working. I use that time to think about my day and mentally prepare for it. I also fit in a fitness/workout session within that 2 hours frame before it is 9 am.

Always try to envision your future and plan for it mentally. Even jot down ideas if you can. This will help you stay prepared, even if it’s a little bit. You know what will happen and how you will handle it. Stay organized!

Thank you,

Anxiety is genetic but can be controlled!

Hello World,

I am trying to balance and jungle many goals and milestones in life as we speak. My work environment and the nature of my job can easily allow a lot of stress and therefore I am subject to feeling a lot anxiety at times. However, having anxiety is genetic. For example, if your mom’s side and parents had anxiety of some sort then there is a chance you may have anxiety as well.

Anxiety is really diminishing to your health ultimately if not managed properly. Anxiety can be caused by stress. However, if you notice that you are unable to complete day to day task then it’s clinical anxiety and it is time for you to seek out help.

There are five types of Anxiety,

  • Generalized anxiety – Stress
  • Obsessive compulsive – Repetitive behavior that proves the same negative outcome
  • Panic disorder – You are worried about the outcome
  • PTSD – You endured a traumatic experience your childhood or lifetime
  • Social anxiety disorder – You are self consciousness

Anxiety can cause avoidance. This a common coping technique used by people with anxiety.  For example, people with anxiety will often avoid events to eliminate social interaction and/or job opportunities to avoid the interview process. This is because they are afraid of the outcome. They are afraid they will perform poorly and will be judged.

Eventually avoidance will come back to haunt these people as they must deal with outcome in the future.  Let’s say that you avoided preparing for an exam, or just didn’t go to the exam because you were afraid of failing or doing poorly. The result will be the same, you would fail. Rather,  if you had taken the time to study then you could have avoided anxiety instead. Avoidance causes the brain to use a lot of power to supress feelings.

If clinical then people should get help, if not then people should learn to face the problems. Avoidance allows a person to prolong the negative output. Some people even convince themselves that they work well under pressure. However, it’s just them putting off the work until the last minute because, they were avoiding the result.

There are two things to understand:

  1. Bad things happen in life (which is not controllable always)
  2. The reaction is always controllable

It’s important to feel the emotion and not to avoid the feeling. The more you are open and expressive the less anxiety you will feel.

What does being Established mean to you?

Hello World,

What does being established mean to you as a person?  In social norm, it can be a lot of things, successful job, a lot of money, a lot of property, a great relationship, etc.  Establishment is always labeled as an achievement of some sort and when you don’t have it on a socially accepted time-frame or age, then you are marked as a failure.  However, do you believe that?

I have always thought of myself as an over achiever.  I never took the path everyone usually followed.  I always did my own research to find out more and learn about all situation and used that as my guide and mentor.  However, at times I feel the things I have achieved made me fall behind on a some segments of my life.  I just couldn’t keep up.

That’s when I fall under the comparison trap of, “oh that person has more than me! Or that person is happier than because of XYZ”.  Unfortunately, this a form of jealousy that happens everyone time to time.  We victimize ourselves and create self-pity.

It is unfortunate but we all create this miserable state for ourselves in our heads.  We talk down, on our own selves?! When you read that line does it not make you feel like you are wasting time?  I know, it’s a sad coping mechanism and I also know we can’t help feeling that way at that very instant. Your thinking pattern and or behavior is a product of your state of mind.

However, we need to learn how to snap out of it quick.  It’s a waste of time thinking about others achievement while you can create a guide to start building your own success.

Trust me! All the achievements I have earned at the age of 24 matters to me but doesn’t sound as prized as it once did when I achieved it.  My colleagues and friends have reached up to it after 4 years.  In other words, the significance of my age does not matter anymore as it did back then.  And same applies to you!  Your age does not matter and you can achieve all your goals at any age.  The accomplishment you put work towards will slowly get you to a fulfilling happy destination.

“To wish you were someone else is to waste the person you are.” ~Sven Goran Eriksson

We often make the mistake of comparing ourselves to our closest ones.  Then we compare ourselves to people we don’t even know like bloggers and influencers.  However, have you realized that we do not compare ourselves to the filthy wealthy, Justin Beiber or Drake.  It’s easier to find someone or was on the similar path as us and say, “why don’t I have what they have?” and the answer to that is grass always looks greener on the other side.  Everyone has their own struggles they don’t vulnerably display in front of every one.  Just like you don’t!  Just like how your Instagram is just all the good photographs of you and your journey.

Don’t try to copy others.  It’s a waste of time!  Yes, mimic people you want to be like, ask for help, do research and get a mentor.  Don’t sit around and think about others success while you can be working on your own!

I need Sleep to Increase Productivity –  For the Workaholics

I just learned procedural memory is learnt through REM sleep.  Ah who ever knew! Well, I didn’t! That’s why I am here to share and increase your productivity.  My sleep pattern has been terrible lately. I have been working round the clock, 10 things going through my brain and I have to get everything done!

However, come to realize that would be sloppy job done on all my assignments and goals because there is no focus on my part!  I can’t concentrate and I am getting distracted! I start procrastinating because, I just can’t recall the information as quickly as I am supposed to! That’s trouble! I am already low on time!

Most importantly, whatever I learnt a day before, I can’t remember and apply to my daily work because I am not letting the information set as I am not getting enough sleep.

A lot, of entrepreneurs / go-getters will take pride in the fact that they get 4 hours of sleep.  It signifies to them that they are busy and they get a lot done.  In fact, it is false validation.  They are probably getting work done but are they of quality?

Quality matter people! Quality is everything! It creates a standard for business and you can charge more per your quality of work!

When you sleep you are actually increasing your chance of productivity and quality of work for the next day. Getting about 7.5 hours of sleep helps you strengthening  of neural connections. You are digesting the information you have learnt through-out the day(s), storing it for reapplication for the future.  When you don’t sleep, the information you want to recall for the future will get diluted.  You won’t be able to recall it as quickly or completely lose it in memory.

The idea is as simple as your daily workout session! When you work-out the entire week, it’s recommended that you add in a rest day.  This is because your muscles need to repair in order to be ready for the next work-out session.  If you don’t take this rest day or any rest days then you will burn out.  Burn out! Yes, that happens to us at work! We burn out when we don’t take a vacation, hence we will definitely burn out when we don’t get enough sleep.

Stay Healthy,

Organize Your Mind – For the overly Ambitious

Hello World,

Back at it again!  I have been reading a book Daniel J. Levitin wrote, The Organized Mind.  Honestly, pick it up and read it.  It is not a national bestseller for any reason.  This book made me realize how I am training my brain all wrong when it comes to utilizing my memory.

We forget things and we use it as an excuse to not complete tasks or prolong tasks.  However, the way I look at the world, we have so much to do yet so little time.  I am always behind.  I need more time added to my 24 hours of getting my goals done.

What does this create?  Stress and anxiety!

& what does that lead to?  Future health issues, such as dementia.

Therefore, I am causing harm to myself without acknowledging the consequences.  I am working hard, being delusional in hopes of achieving more yet getting less work completed.

How do I help myself? How do you I remember important things, keep my mind organized, and not burn out at the same time?

Here is the trick! Create a mind map.  I wrote about the visual map during one my first MBA courses. Please click: mind map  for the link. This step-by-step guide is of visualizing your goals.  Seeing your goals visually helps you remove the clutter and to focus on the clear picture.

Write it down! Here is a trick that works for me the best, write every important thing down.  In addition to that, use the hand that you do not use to write your notes down.  Why do I say this?  Because, your brain remembers unusual tasks, if you don’t usually use your left hand to write, then your brain will register that and you will remember it easily.

Learn it with interest!  First, you have to learn the material well and thoroughly, don’t just read it and memorize it.  Concurrently, you are required to enjoy what you are learning.  This way you will remember the information no matter what.

Keeping the last to suggestions in mind, learning the information with interest, you need to teach it to yourself and or someone else.  Why do I say teach it to yourself?  In order to teach the information to yourself you need to practice having dialogues with yourself about the topic.  You can relate the topic back to information that correlates to a significant story or journey close to you or you read about.  You can also have the same dialogue with others. This will definitely increase your confidence about the subject and help you recall it later on.

Keep yourself healthy!  Work your entire body including your brain.  Reading, writing, crossword puzzle, anything that makes your brain a bit tired.

Focus! Your mind is a clutter.  Take this for instance, when some people are at work the mind shifts to focusing too much on what they need accomplish to when they get back home.  However, when they reach home the opposite happens, they start thinking about what they need to have done at work.  Why is this wrong?  Because, both the effort at home and at work will be half-hearted and half done.  The 100% will never be there due to lack of focus.  This is the reason why we need to organize our brain and create segments to put emphasis one thing at a time.

Hence, create a short list of,

  • Do it
  • Delegate it
  • Defer it
  • Drop it

Above, is how you roll my friend!  Prioritize and organize your task to keep your workflow going. Remove unwanted clutter from your brain.  Keep your mind in peace at one place and be there completely with your mind, rather than jumping ahead of what needs to be done next.

Until next time,

Mind Mapping and Brainstorming

Hello World,

I know brainstorming is something you learned back when you were in Grade 5 but you’d be surprised to learn that I have used the same form of visual organization technique in my MBA class as Mind mapping! Honestly, it really brings back your focus when you have too much going on and I have always too much going on!

Often people take on too much responsibilities. The list is just never ending. They have loan, expenses, work, projects and never ending list of things they want to achieve. Then there is the list of how they will achieve all their goals, the process part! All becomes a clutter in the brain. Therefore it’s easier when visualized.

Grab a piece of paper and draw your goals out. You don’t have to go to art school to be great at this! Just make a map and use different colors to of what’s important to you right now.  My mind was a clutter today!

I made one to focus on what’s important to me today! It’s a simple one and it doesn’t have an action plan attached to it. But it really helps me focus on what I need to take action on.

Do share your mind maps with me!
