Intentions are Cheap

Hello World,

You may find this funny but I actually found the phrase “intentions are cheap” from a Harvard Business Review article about strategy while working on my MBA assignment. Even in business, intentions are cheap.

I want to ask you about your feelings towards this phrase. How do you feel about this idea?

When someone forgets to get a gift for you on your birthday but really wanted to, you would say something polite back to him or her, “it was the intention that mattered!” But, in reality, No it didn’t!  Because, INTENTIONS are CHEAP and you cannot verify some ones intent!

This applies to your everyday goal settings as well. You intent on losing 10 pounds, but sorry even Harvard Business Review are challenging your intentions.  Intentions do not mean anything until you process it.  Even when you start testing your intentions, other obstacles/situations/issues=–you name it, may arise while you are applying your goals to challenge your initial intent.  When you test your goals, you realize that they need modifications along the way.

Your initial intent never remains and you learn along the way. This idea helps you combat fear.  Some people have many goals and intentions; however, they never process them due to fear.  Now that you know your intentions grow as you apply them, why should you fear?  Either way, you are creating a learning opportunity for yourself.

Therefore, I want you to just go for your desires and work hard. If you have, “intentions” then let’s bring them to reality.

I hope you are following my 5 power goal steps to complete your ultimate goal while getting your short term goals done TODAY!

How to Keep Moving with your GOALS

Hello World,

Yes, I am a busy bee. I love to write and just speak my heart out but I have a lot to do, one being my MBA! Now, on this sleepless night. I would like to speak to you about effective goal setting techniques. Why do we need effective goal setting techniques? Because it helps us moving forward.

True to the name of this blog, you need to learn how to not GIVE UP on your goals.

How do you stay motivated? You have to take your goals and strategize it! You have to make it a habit and you can only make something a habit if you practice it everyday. You have to take your goal and automate it to your every day so it becomes a habit.

Now that’s not as easy as said. Many people make new years resolution and fail on the second day. This is because there is no reminder, they are not held accountable if they don’t complete the task. Hence, at the end there is no motivation to complete the task.

That means we have to create accountability. And here is how we will do that! This seems simple but this also needs to be practiced every day. In the morning every day I would like you to keep a Notebook to write down your 5 Power goals for the day!

No not just any goals! It can’t be doing groceries – that’s not a goal, it’s a task! I want you to segment your goals, break it down.

Example: Long term – I would like to own a shop. This is a broad long term goal that needs many short term goals before I get to this goals.

Therefore, my Power 5 goals for today can be –

1. Conduct Research on (Blank)

2. Research Suppliers, find top 10 suppliers

3. Email top 10 suppliers

4. Research mentors on LinkedIn

5. Write an Email Template for the mentors / a Pitch for my future Shop

That’s it. Keep it simple but make sure the list is completed today! So tomorrow, you can add to the list and not holding off tasks you didn’t complete. You only  progress if the tasks are completed daily. You only see results if you practice daily.

25 Negin Mirsalehi Bikini Goals for New Years

Hello World,

I don’t set resolutions for New Years because I believe in starting and organizing things now, right this very second. This year will be the same. It will be about upgrading my lifestyle, doing the things I love and starting now.

But I wanted to create a fun list of resolutions. Yes, these are things I would always come across, these are small fun side things I want to achieve. However, these items would always slip through because of my main priority list.

This year I’ve decided to make a list and I would like to start off with Negin Mirsalehi’s bikini collection. Can this be a resolution? Hell yes, I would like a collection of each and every single one of her Bikini’s she wears.

The Bikini’s are classy, sexy, detailed, fashionable and perfect for all moods! Looking at these pictures just makes me want to be on the beach somewhere.

They are all my favorite but I can’t choose one over the other. If you follow my social media, you know I am a big travel bug!

What do you think? Which one are your favorite?

Wedding Anxiety

Hello World,

I don’t have the wedding Jitters just yet but I hear that’s one common trend of anxiety a couple face during their wedding. Ironic how a perfect wedding is not guaranteed but wedding anxiety is! It’s normal to get anxious since it’s a milestone in your life. However, the wedding anxieties takes small issue and enlarges the problems into madness. The couple start to question the relationship, they go into panic mode with organization of the planning and they also start magnifying every little thing. The worst is when the couple starts believing they are with the wrong partner. All of a sudden, you ask yourself was saying, “Yes” a mistake? But what if I told you all this is normal?!

It’s Normal…

Don’t turn into bridezilla! Reality check, they ALL call you that behind your back when you are a new bride. It’s normal to feel anxious! Accept it! You need to accept that your one day will be great no matter what. You will still end up with your partner you have been dating for a good while and the best of it all after the big day you wake up beside them for the rest of your life. Now I know, what you are thinking! That is exactly the problem! What if you don’t want to wake up beside them the rest of your life? There is a sudden commitment issue. The proposal happened too soon and you didn’t get time to think. After all these years but right before the wedding you start noticing their minor details of leaving their socks in the living room, leaving a bunch of dishes in the sink, and snoring at night! Can you take that for the rest of your life? Are they the one? That’s called wedding jitters aka Cold Feet! You were just fine weeks before they engagement but now you want to run out that door.

Your partner didn’t change, it’s just you over thinking. When all this goes through your mind, please do yourself a favor and take a breather! Stop thinking about the wedding for a bit and take your partner out on a nice date. Speak about anything but the wedding. Go out with your girlfriends and have a fun girl’s night out. Main key point is, leave it the thoughts and have fun!

Run…

Literally run! You have to fit into that wedding gown don’t you? Run, exercise and let the stress go out the door. I know you won’t have time because of all the planning and organizing but you have to make time to do a bit of pre-wedding workout. This will help you distract and relax your mind. Take a breather and go for long walks and do yoga! Don’t worry that dress would look great on you.

Use the Bridesmaids…

I know you can be the best bridezilla in the world by planning your perfect dream wedding, but another reality check, sorry, you can’t do it all alone! When someone offers a kind gesture, “Do you need me to do something?” That’s when you say, “Yes” for the second time! Wedding planning is doing a lot of things at once and involves a lot of coordination. No matter what you say, you can’t multitask with that wedding anxiety of yours. That’s the reason you leave it to people that really care about you. Trust, remember that word? They will not mess up your big day. I know you are worried something will get left behind if you are not looking over it but hey, this is when you are getting a chance to show your true Project management skills! Delegate your work!

Don’t DIY

I know you millennials are eager to open up your Youtube and Pinterest and start your DIY cards and gifts, guest lists, stages, cupcakes, flowers, decorations and basically the whole wedding, but don’t do it! I know your wedding needs to look DIY trendy but you are creating more work for yourself and adding to your stress level at this time. There is a reason there is ETSY and other shops on Shopify that can easily give your wedding that DIY touch. Can you imagine sitting at 2:00 in the morning still playing with glitter and hand writing all of your 200 invitations? Nope, do not do it!

Why the Cold Feet…

You doubt that they will turn out to be a bad partner or you yourself will not be a good one. You may had divorces in your family, traumatic childhood, violence etc. that adds to your decision of quitting last minute. You feel history will repeat and those things may reoccur in your life either through you or through your partner. You will end up in the same position as your fears. Nope, negative! You will not because you will avoid that pattern. You know the issue and you will work against to protect a good successful relationship. Stop being negative and let the whole thing pan out and take its course.

It won’t be perfect…

I am sorry, I saved the bad news for the last. It won’t be perfect but you will love it. Somethings will go out of coordination, some people will be late, maybe the weather won’t cooperate or someone will make an embarrassing toast. But that’s not what the wedding is about! It’s not a show for everyone else, you don’t have to please everyone and make it a perfect wedding but it’s a celebration for yourself. I feel often people confuse what a wedding really means. A wedding is a celebration of two people starting a new beginning together. All the people attending are celebrating your happiness. It’s your day and you have full right to mess up and have fun! You are allowed! So sure, the mike didn’t work when the speeches were going on but that’s okayyyy!

Don’t forget my hand written invitation card for your wedding!

Relearn Self – Discipline

Hello World,

You want achieve a goal or many goals?! Then you would have to learn self-discipline. Despite many beliefs self-discipline can be learnt with training. Self-Discipline requires practice, patience and control of temptations. It’s a process of building specific habits. Once you mastered self-control you will get more done in less time with less effort. Sounds good?

Define

Take self-discipline as a project. Before you start any project you have to define the purpose of the project. You have to ask yourself what is the end goal and why do you want to achieve this goal.

The main questions to answer thoroughly are as follows,

  • What do I want?
  • Why do I want this?
  • Why specifically do I need to follow through and get this done?
  • Why specifically do I want to achieve this goal?
  • Why specifically do I want to develop this habit?
  • Why is this of primary importance for me right now?
  • Why do I really want this in my life?
  • What are the potential rewards I will gain from doing this?
  • What personal standards will I uphold?
  • What behaviors and choices will I accept?
  • What behaviors and choices will I not accept?
  • How will I correct things when I get off track?

Tasks vs. Temptations

Our prime obstacle with reaching self-discipline are random distractions. We get distracted very easily! Especially when we feel the goal is too difficult. Face it, we are lazy! We don’t like stepping out of our comfort zone. Hence, we avoid the difficult route and choose the easy way out and allow ourselves to get distracted. But how is getting sidetracked helping you become a better version of yourself? How does the temptation contribute in achieving the end goal? It’s a stoppage, it’s not assisting in improving your purpose but making you stagnate.

To reach the end goal you need to break the objective down to smaller actions. After you defined what you wish to achieve, separate the entire goal into small tasks. Even your distractions! Yes, even your distractions. You can’t eliminate entertainment completely. No one is telling you to be a zombie! You need to let your mind and body rest as well. You need to set a side time for distractions, entertainment, and temptations which will work as your reward. For example, there needs to always be a cheat day after a weeklong fitness training!

Motivation

Many people lose motivation because they don’t know where to begin with a project. Breaking the goal down into smaller tasks will definitely make that clear. Another way to stay motivated is by rewarding yourself or turning your temptations into rewards. It’s as simple as the concept of CUE-ACTION-REWARD.

For example, let’s say you are setting a goal to lose weight of 160 pound and the trainer has asked you to complete a High intensity Interval Training on the treadmill every day for one hour for X number of days. Now, since cardio is not your best friend, your resting heart rate is on the higher end which makes you lose your breath while running on the treadmill. How would you motivate yourself? – Cue – What do you love eating? Steak/Chocolate. Action – Cardio every single day for one hour. Track your performance. Reward—live a little, celebrate your hard work. Have that steak and chocolate with a glass of wine! You need to change in some aspect to have the end target in your life, you have to ask do you deserve to have the goal in your life?

Track your performance

This is a big motivator for me! Competition always gets me going. When you are competing, it feels like a challenge you want to win. When you track your performance you can compete against your best self. You can also out work and outperform others you see as role models. Tracking your performance is important because self-discipline is not about constantly repeating something every day but to correct and adapt to the behavior.

Keep reading and sharing!

Thanks,

DLA

Master Negotiation

Hello World,

Do you recall the last time you negotiated and what the outcome was? I am sure you thought of a moment of confrontation with someone. When you hear the word negotiation, you subconsciously start to think of competition between you and the second party. However, that’s not the case! Negotiation is reaching an agreement that is moderately satisfactory for both parties.

How does that work?

Good question! How does that work? I mean, I want this deal but the other party is definitely not agreeing with anything I am proposing! There are three forms of negotiation, Hard (Aggressive), Soft (Passive) and Principled (Assertive). Aggressive is when you shout, yell, confront, make the other person look bad and do anything to get the deal. Passive, you yield, and come off a bit unconfident. Best practiced is Assertive, you focus on interest and not the position.

Assertive negotiation creates a Win-Win situation for both parties. To create a Win-Win situation you need to define the purpose of the negotiation. Why do you need the negotiation? What purpose will it solve? After we have an answer, let’s assess if our proposal is realistic. Remember you don’t want the proposal to be turned down! Then comes thorough research on the topic of proposal and the party we are negotiating with. Trust me, you are only calling for failure if you are not confident! The only way to gain confidence is by acquiring knowledge about your product and the client! Yes, I know I say this way too often but one more time, PRACTICE! Run through the negotiation points, presentation, slides, speech, numerous times. Now don’t get the wrong idea, you are not there to prove the other side wrong or look desperate for the deal but practicing will boost your confidence and give you an edge when negotiating.

Know what your clients interests are and what they want out of the deal. Always do a Scenario analysis and figure out alternative plans for the proposal. This way if the second party counter offers you are not sitting there blank. Don’t read off the paper! Emphasis on confidence is major! If you are not assertive then you are giving the other party leverage. Keep a poker face, which means even if you are franticly in need of the deal, don’t show it! Be honest about the information you provide and be yourself.

FACT: UK businesses lose estimated $9 million per hour due to poor negotiation

Communication! The most important out of all the information shared; you need to be a good communicator to be a good negotiator. Practice and learn this skill, it’s needed in leadership, business and in your day to day life. You need to focus on pitch and tone of voice, speech, body language and most and foremost be a good listener. In negotiation, no foul words please! Don’t let the emotions get the best of you when things are not going your way. Remember, who ever gets angry first loses as the other person has leverage. Be calm and patient, listen and show respect. How you dress at the meeting has a lot to do with communication as well. It tells the second party how serious you are about the proposal.

You are not competing against the second party, hence you have to compromise. Don’t throw a tantrum, you won’t always get everything. Negotiation is neutralizing conflict, resolving and ensuring mutual gains. Don’t be in a hurry to close the deal. Show patience and buy time from the second party. Inaction, as in buying time will give you more time to think of an alternative counter offer.

RADPAC

The method of negotiating as follows:

Rapport – Share good vibes! Build a relationship. In business, you are negotiating a deal not just for one time gain but for a prospect client!

Analysis – Understand/Research your product and the second parties interest

Debate – The main part of negotiation is the discussion. Stay calm and composed. Don’t assume, the clients can’t read your mind. Be clear about the proposal.

Propose – Propose the best idea to reach the best possible conclusion

Close – Closing the deal. Contracts to be carried out in presence of both parties.

There are many types of negotiations: Day to Day negotiation: flow of work, the negotiation we have with ourselves, our family, our friends, our dogs. Negotiation with a superior, team, Commercial Negotiation, Legal Negotiation. The negotiating conditions of sale, lease, service delivery, etc. Hence sometimes negotiation can get complicated. A lot of businesses use third parties for instance, Lawyers, subcontractors, project managers, etc. as negotiators for deals. This way they  remain positive in front of the client.

Happy Negotiating!
